THIS IS A WIP, THAT MEANS IT IS NOT DONE YET!!! Anatomy issues and minor details come later.

I've decided that I am going to nix my art-collection book idea. I can't even sell a few prints which means next to no one will shell out the $$$ for a whole book. Instead, I'm going back to my default idea which was a How-To style series for digital painting.

This centaur is not done yet. I'm still working out some kinks in the anatomy. The only reference I used was for the face:

And yes, I know the horse anatomy isn't "spot on." It was an intentional stylistic choice.

Abs aren't done and the left breast is not smaller. The drape makes it look that way but it is not.

Looks great so far. I see you're also using a brown/tan background to start with lately. Must be something in the air. *nodnod*

I notice the "human" flesh-tones are improving: sometimes such "normal" skin looks a little plastic-y with the digital media... Rock on.

The foreshortening is in general completely rad, but something about her left forehoof bothers me, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I want to say it's the shape of the bottom side, but I'm uncertain.

To be honest, I've thought of acquiring a print or two before... and then you announced the book project and I had a little squee moment.
You see, art book solves multiple hesitations: a)no framing b)limited wall space becomes a non issue c)commentary and titles stay with the work d)fits in the book budget category, rather than the tighter category of decor* e) more convenient for close inspection.
I *still* plan on acquiring when it's out: I'm still just getting my feet wet in digital media, and I need (love!) technical manuals, especially when well written. Since you've been so willing to share tips through devart, and your writing style is very accessible, I fully expect to enjoy a how-to book as well.

:)

*being a painter/sewer/hobby-carpenter/crafter myself, I feel like I'm not really doing my job if I don't make it myself most of the time.

Very well done, I like seeing you do this kind of work. For me, seeing the difference between the original sketch and the painted version has me feeling like the face on the original sketch is much more fitting for the mood of the rest of the centaur. The serene face doesn't fit the action very well. However, the face with the focused look is beautiful and very well done. I know this will turn out wonderfully, whichever you decide to do.

Um.. hi.

It's really quite neat to see what you start out with and the progress you make. Those are some killer abs. :D

I for one would be plenty interested in seeing a How To sort of series.

But I need arts! Without them I will explode! ... it happens sometimes..
:icontoothmrc:
Incredible. you start your drawings in photoshop? do you have cs4?
:iconbobbie-the-jean:
