1.) A very important and often overlooked aspect of the art industries is networking. Get to know people and especially get to know who is important to know. Acquire a list of contacts and MAINTAIN those contacts. Don't call someone up after ten years of radio silence then be like "hi, remember me? Need job now, can has?" Also, don't be a dick to people and don't burn bridges. You'd be surprised how quickly that can get you blacklisted from a variety of places.
